Lombok Tengah Police Hosts Run Ramadhan Event to Foster Youth Talent

Lombok Zone – In a commendable effort to promote positive activities among the youth and curb delinquency during the holy month of Ramadhan, the Lombok Tengah Police, part of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Police, organized a 100-meter sprint competition named Run Ramadhan 1447 Hijriah.

This event was officially inaugurated by Lombok Tengah Police Chief AKBP Eko Yusmiarto on Saturday evening at the main road in front of the Lombok Tengah Police Station. The initiative garnered significant enthusiasm from the community, especially among students and young people eager to showcase their athletic talents.

According to Chief Eko, the Run Ramadhan competition serves as a positive platform for the public to engage in exercise while enhancing physical fitness throughout the holy month.

“With this race, we aim to provide an official venue for the community, particularly the youth, to express their interests and talents in sports,” he stated during the opening ceremony.

The popularity of running as a sport among the community is undeniable, often spontaneously practiced by youngsters during the evenings of Ramadhan. To create a structured environment for this activity, the Lombok Tengah Police decided to establish an official competition.

Chief Eko emphasized that the Run Ramadhan event also serves as a preventive measure against illegal racing activities that could pose security risks and disrupt public order.

This event not only offers youth a chance to compete healthily but is also designed to foster sportsmanship and strengthen community bonds.

“This is part of our initiative to identify and nurture talented athletes from Lombok Tengah, guiding them to higher levels of achievement,” he added.

The Run Ramadhan 2026 event is scheduled over two days, concluding on Sunday night, with approximately 225 participants across both male and female categories. Competitors range from students to community members passionate about running.

The winners will be prepared for higher-level competitions, including provincial sports events, with hopes that all participants will uphold sportsmanship and maintain order throughout the competition.

Through this initiative, the Lombok Tengah Police aspire to create a safe, orderly, and conducive atmosphere within the community during Ramadhan while encouraging the youth to develop their potential through positive engagements.

Strengthening Environmental Commitment: Indonesia Asri Program Launched in Bima

Lombok Zone – In a bid to tackle waste management challenges and promote sustainable living, the Vice Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Indah Dhamayanti Putri, held a readiness rally for the Indonesia Asri and NTB Asri Berkelanjutan programs at the Bima City Mayor’s Office on Monday, March 2.

This event serves as a reaffirmation of the collective commitment to enhance environmental quality and address ongoing waste issues. During her address, Vice Governor Dinda emphasized that the Indonesia Asri movement is part of a national directive aimed at revitalizing the spirit of mutual cooperation to achieve a clean and healthy environment.

“Waste management can no longer rely on traditional methods of collecting, transporting, and disposing of waste. We must transition to an integrated system that starts from the source to the final processing facility,” stated Vice Governor Dinda.

The NTB provincial government recognizes that waste management remains a shared challenge. Of the ten landfills in NTB, only a portion currently employs a controlled system, while the rest require further organization. This represents a significant task that must be accomplished gradually, with measurable and sustainable steps.

Additionally, improving the Environmental Quality Index (IKLH) is also a priority. By 2025, the IKLH for NTB is projected to reach 77.4, categorized as good but still below the national target. “Parameters like air quality, water quality, and land cover are focal points for improvement, which will be driven by consistent reforestation and greening initiatives,” she added.

“The Indonesia Asri and NTB Asri Berkelanjutan movements are not just ceremonial; they call for real action. Waste management must begin at the source and be executed systematically and measurably,” emphasized Vice Governor Dinda.

In a demonstration of commitment, the rally included a tree-planting ceremony in front of the Bima Mayor’s Office, where a pule tree was planted. This act symbolizes the shared dedication towards enhancing greening efforts and maintaining environmental balance in urban areas.

“We intend to use Ramadan as an opportunity to solidify our commitment to environmental care. Today’s tree planting serves as a reminder that change begins with small steps, but these steps must be taken consistently and collectively,” she continued.

The government is encouraging all stakeholders, including local authorities, businesses, schools, religious institutions, and community organizations, to participate in making this movement a sustainable collective effort.

“Without a healthy environment, development will lack a solid foundation. Therefore, let us work together towards a clean, green, and sustainable NTB for future generations,” concluded Vice Governor Dinda.

  • Plastic Diet Campaign at Samota CFD, Sumbawa: Reducing Single-Use Plastic

Plastic Diet Campaign at Samota CFD, Sumbawa: Reducing Single-Use Plastic

On Sunday, September 7, a campaign to reduce single-use plastic will be held at Car Free Day (CFD) Samota, Sumbawa. The event is a collaboration between Nol Sampah Surabaya and SDN Selang, one of the Adiwiyata schools in Sumbawa, aimed at raising public awareness about the negative impacts of single-use plastics on the environment and human health.

The campaign, titled “Rampok Tas Kresek dan Sedotan Plastik” (Seize Plastic Bags and Straws), will involve volunteers approaching CFD visitors still using plastic bags. Their plastic bags will be exchanged for reusable cloth bags. This step is expected to help reduce the community’s dependence on single-use plastic, which can take hundreds of years to decompose.

In addition, volunteers will provide education to the public about the dangers of using plastic bags and straws. This educational effort is crucial since many people are still unaware of the long-term consequences of plastic waste on the environment.

Symbolic Action with the Presence of the “Plastic Monster”

To attract attention and raise awareness, the campaign will also feature the presence of a “plastic monster”, a symbol representing the threat of accumulated plastic waste that harms the environment. The hope is that this mascot will provoke reflection among the public about the importance of reducing single-use plastics.

This campaign is part of a continuous effort to reduce plastic waste in Indonesia, which has become one of the country’s most pressing environmental issues. Through this activity, it is hoped that more people will switch to eco-friendly alternatives and develop greater concern for environmental sustainability.

Rare Mangrove Species Found on Nanga Sira Island, Sumbawa

In the lush expanse of Nanga Sira Island, located in the village of Penyaring, North Moyo, Sumbawa, two rare species of mangrove have been identified, underscoring the island’s ecological significance. The species, Ceriops decandra and Scyphiphora hydrophyllacea, are among the 14 rare mangrove varieties found worldwide.

Hermawan Some, a representative from the Zero Waste Community, who led the identification process in June 2025, highlighted the pressing need for conservation efforts to preserve these unique ecosystems. “Conservation efforts are essential to ensure these rare species continue to thrive,” he emphasized.

These mangroves play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, serving as natural barriers against coastal erosion and providing critical habitats for various marine species. The presence of such rare species in Sumbawa highlights the region’s biodiversity and the need for urgent protective measures.

Conservationists and local authorities are being urged to collaborate on strategies that would safeguard these rare mangroves from threats such as deforestation, pollution, and climate change. Initiatives may include establishing protected areas, promoting sustainable tourism, and engaging local communities in conservation efforts.

The discovery of these rare mangroves also presents an opportunity for scientific research, which could provide further insights into the ecological roles and potential benefits of these species. Such research could foster a better understanding of how to protect and sustainably manage these vital ecosystems.

Bros Gerbang Sangkareang: A New Cultural Icon for Mataram

The 32nd anniversary of Mataram was marked by a significant cultural milestone with the official recognition of the Bros Gerbang Sangkareang. The copyright certificate for this symbolic brooch was presented to Hj. Kinnastri Mohan Roliskana, Chair of the TP PKK and Dekranasda, by I Gusti Putu Milawati, the Head of the NTB Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

This brooch is not merely a piece of jewelry but a representation of Mataram’s identity, rich with philosophical significance. Inspired by the Sangkareang Gate at the Sangkareang Square—an iconic public space in Mataram—it embodies the values of openness, unity, and community spirit.

    The Symbolism of the Brooch
